Top 4 Free 2D Game Assets Stores
If you have ever created a game, you will know that assets
are very important to game development, but the problem is, how do you create
one? Or how do you generate or get the right one for your game?
In today’s blog, we will be discussing how to get free
assets to create our games. We will discuss some free tools to use to create
your game assets in another feature post.
The following free assets sites are sites I have used, except one which is Shutterstock. I have most especially used one a lot, and realized games with its assets. I have not realized any game with the other sites, but I have downloaded some of their assets for my game.
Table of Contents
1. CRAFTPIX.NET
Craftpix is a site that offers high-quality free and premium
2D game assets for your projects. Craftpix have arts for different categories,
ranging from icons, backgrounds, gui, game kits, and more. When you visit this
site, you get a search box to search for your specific test.
I have downloaded assets from this site, and I have not yet
used it in my games, but you can get assets for free, in this Site.
2. GAMEDEVELOPERSTUDIO.COM
Gamedeveloperstudio.com is a site where you can get 2D assets,
both for free and paid. This site is owned By “One Robert”, and all assets were
created by him, all by hand (using digital tools of cause), in one style. Of
cause, this way you know it’s one artist who created all the assets, and I didn’t
realized this, until now, creating this blog. He gives assets both free and
paid. In all free assets, you can support his work, but not necessary, just a
sign of appreciation.
Gamedeveloperstudio.com has been the site I have been using
for some of my projects like: Popping Balloons, and Wild hat. I know the game
looks very unpleasant, or visually unappealing, but that’s because I am not too
good at designing. Most games I created with reference looks more appealing
than the above mentioned. I have created games like: Hangman, and RGB, with
reference for their design.
In this website, you can download more than 10, 000 2D arts, in over 1000 packs. You can also search through this site to get the asset you’re looking for.
Check out all the above mentioned games here
3. FREEPIK
Freepik is another site that offers free 2D game assets. This
site offers both images and game assets, so you can use them, not only in your
game, but on other of your contents, like videos, or graphics stuffs, or something.
You can download assets and use them on not only games.
I have downloaded assets here, but have not created a game with it. The assets are both free and paid.
4. SHUTTERSTOCK
Shutterstock is a very very very, popular site to download
game assets. It is used by a lot of people, creators, graphic designers, and many
others. Shutterstock has both images outside game development, and it also has
assets for game development. You can search a category, or a name, or something,
and you will see your results. It is advisable to select assets, or 3D models,
and search under that category.
I personally have not used Shutterstock for my games, but it has lot of assets, that you can use in your games. You can use it for free for a month, and so, I will recommend you go to the website, and even the privacy section, before you use any of its assets.
Conclusion
Maybe you are in a rush to complete a game, or you’re looking
for a quick way to finish your game, you may probably need to get assets for
your game, to complete your projects, or bring it to life.
If you consider, or have considered using any of the
mentioned sites, “Please check the privacy, and permission of the sites, before
using its assets”.
This post, I will call it, “The Second Road Map to Game
Development”. I have talked about the first, which was “selecting a game engine
(Top 5 Game Engine in 2023)”. We will talk about the final and last road map,
and also a subsection of this post, which are “Sites to get free sounds”, and “free
